4.5! Really enjoyed this. Loved the world-building and characters, especially the heroine, who was smart, brave & strong. Ditto for the hero. I'll be checking out more of this author's work.
Really liked this, just wished it was more gritty/darker and the characterization was fleshed out a bit more.
I'm going to have to put this one aside for now. Fun voice and out of the ordinary plot, but losing patience with both h/H.
I'm going to echo what most of the other reviews have said; this story had great potential. Well written, interesting set-up/back-story and characters (hot/commanding hero, strong heroine) and really good build-up of sexual tension,(so deftly done) but the story was too just too short. Felt like every thing got got short-shifted just as it started. I think the author realizes how short these stories are because she refers to them as bites. I really wish she'd re-think this strategy and work on something that was at least novella length. Having said that, since each bite/story costs $0.99 I sprung for the next in the series ^o^
Wavering between 2 1/2 and 3. Heroine was tiresome, but there were parts of the story that were really sweet.
3.5 very funny & fun story and Likable characters. Really enjoyed the author's writing style but the subterfuge went on too long for me. Also hero read more like a Chandler Bing type guy rather than the man's man jock type he was billed as. Those quibbles aside, I will definitely be reading more of this author!
4.5. I have quibbles, and was actually going to give this a 3.5 but the story/characters have really stayed with me, enough that i started re-reading it. The prison setting is unique for a romance and something I didn't realize was a hook for me. There's a a lot of sexxoring going on and I can see why some readers are disappointed the plot might not have progressed as much as they'd hoped because of it, but I was okay with it, even if I did agree to a point.
Changing my rating from 3 to 4. I have quibbles with the story (pretty much all the issues others have listed) but the story/characters have stayed with me & I know I'll read this story again.
Enjoyable fast read. Like that the heroine was strong/smart/competent but wasn't buying that she was a sub, or that hero was a dom, for that matter. Just didn't feel believeable/intrinsic to their character.
I had quibbles with this (which have itemized pretty thoroughly in GR reviews) but overall I loved the heroine & all the characters and will probably check out the next book.
